General FAQs

Q: What accronyms do you use and what do they mean?

AIMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the legal nature of some of the terms listed below, the exact definition of some of the terms can be more complicated than listed here and may have different legal bearings in different countries. They are listed here for initial awareness only. It is suggested that you contact an international trade lawyer before using any trade term listed here or otherwise. We are happy to respond to specific questions directly. Please contact us.

ABBR. Full Name Description
F.O.B. Freight On Board We deliver the goods to your port of choice. With an FOB order, once we deliver it to wherever you would like us to send it to (usually Shenzhen) you are then responsible to receive the goods from there to your final desitnation.
FAI First Article Inspection The process of inspecting the first product samples to be produced using a new mold.
FOT First Off Tool The name given to the first product samples to be produced using a new mold.
DDP Delivery Duty Paid This type of delivery agreement states that all of the risks and associated costs are with Changhong Technology Co., Ltd. until delivery is made. If the goods are damaged or lost in transit, we will be responsible for the costs.
DDU Delivery Duty Unpaid Under this term, CHT is responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of goods to a named destination, paying all transportation expenses but not the duty. The client then assumes responsibility for paying the duty and other clearing expenses.
CIF Cost, Insurance, Freight Under this term, we will arrange for the carriage of goods by sea to a port of destination, and provide the client with the documents necessary to obtain the goods from the carrier.
QP / PS Qualified Partner / Preferred Supplier Many of our customers recommend us directly to their customers as a qualified partner or preferred supplier - assuring their own clients that business with CHT is quality-assured, low-effort and high-yield. Whilst we do not attain to be the cheapest, we will always strive to be the best.
PPAP Production Part Approval Process "Pee Pap" is used in the automotive supply chain to establish confidence in component suppliers and their production processes, by demonstrating that: "....all customer engineering design record and specification requirements are properly understood by the supplier and that the process has the potential to produce product consistently meeting these requirements during an actual production run at the quoted production rate." CNC Computer Numerical Control A machine tool that uses programs to automatically execute a series of machining operations. Our CNC machines offer increased productivity and flexibility.
EDM Electrical Discharge Machining EDM uses a rapid series of electrical sparks to vaporize and remove metal.
WEDM Wire Electrical Discharge Machining A type of EDM machine with a thin electrode wire that is spun between two reels during machining. These machines are commonly used to machine contours, sharp corners, and tapers either internally or externally.

I.P. Intellectual Property Since the early days of manufacturing in China, the Chinese have been challenged to reproduce parts originally manufactured in the West in an effort to beat prices. In doing so, China is often tarred with the reputation of failing to respect intellectual property rights. Changhong is different. As a World leader it is vital that we respect international I.P. rights. In fact, we hold numerous patents ourselves so completely understand the value of the protection of our precious creations and yours.
FDA U.S. Food and Drug Administration FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.
GMP Good Manufacturing Practice A good manufacturing practice (GMP) is a production and testing practice that helps to ensure a quality product. Many countries have legislated that pharmaceutical and medical device companies must follow GMP procedures, and have created their own GMP guidelines that correspond with their legislation. Basic concepts of all of these guidelines remain more or less similar to the ultimate goals of safeguarding the health of the patient as well as producing good quality medicine, medical devices or active pharmaceutical products. In the U.S. a drug may be deemed adulterated if it passes all of the specifications tests but is found to be manufactured in a condition which violates current good manufacturing guidelines. Therefore, complying with GMP is a mandatory aspect in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
ISO International Organization for Standardization The International Organization for Standardization, widely known as ISO, is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations. Founded on February 23, 1947, the organization promulgates worldwide proprietary, industrial, and commercial standards. It has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
ROHS Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive The Directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment 2002/95/EC (commonly referred to as the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS) was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union. The RoHS directive took effect on 1 July 2006, and is required to be enforced and become law in each member state. This directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. It is closely linked with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods and is part of a legislative initiative to solve the problem of huge amounts of toxic e-waste.
REACH Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is a European Union Regulation of 18 December 2006. REACH addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment. Its 849 pages took seven years to pass, and it has been described as the most complex legislation in the Union's history and the most important in 20 years. It is the strictest law to date regulating chemical substances and will affect industries throughout the world. REACH entered into force in 1 June 2007, with a phased implementation over the next decade.
NSF National Science Foundation The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a United States government agency that supports fundamental research and education in all the non-medical fields of science and engineering. Its medical counterpart is the National Institutes of Health.

Q: What are your factory names, addresses, locations and contact details?

A: Please refer to our Locations Page for a complete list of the locations under the CHT Group.

Q: Do you rent any premises?

A: No. All of the CHT Group facilities are wholly owned by the Group.

Q: What are your opening hours?

A: Standard opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 08:30 - 17:30, although we can run 24-hour production as client-demand dictates, by running 3 shifts for 11 hours per day, in rotation throughout the week (so as to also comply with Personel Laws).

Q: Do you have any scheduled plant closures?

A: No. In fact, we are looking to further expand our Industrial Group in the next few years.

Q: How does CHT perform safety-wise?

A: Since 2009 we have maintained a 99.5% safety performance, of which we are very proud. A safe workplace is a happy and productive one!

Q: Do you offer a design service?

A: Yes. Although most-commonly this is for clients who wish to manufacture tools and parts in CHT, we do offer a design-only service. Please talk to your appointed sales engineer for specific prices and details, or refer to our DFM page.

Q: Do you adhere to non-disclosure agreements and patent protection?

A: Yes. Working with Global Corporations we are no stranger to NDAs and global patent & I.P. protection

Q: Can we expect time-zone or communication problems?

A: We hope not! Every department in CHT has at least one person who is a high-level English speaker. In fact, our Sales Director is from the UK (Americans would say his English is 'so so' :). Whilst the time-difference means an extra factor to consider in our communications, we are accustomed to early / late conference calls and check e-mails at various hours of the day and night as we already service clients in every continent.

Q: Do you have service workshops in my country?

A: Our official locations are currently only in mainland China. We have sales agents in many countries Worldwide and a number of our long-term clients also form a network of preferred suppliers for local maintenance and repair services. Please let us know where you are and we will gladly refer you. Additionally we only us industry-standard components, so your tools can be maintained in the most economic way.


Quotation / Ordering FAQs

Q: How do you qualify your customers?

A: At CHT it is important that our customers are a good match for our capabilities. To that end, we qualify our customers under the following factors:

  • Number of years in Business
  • Type of Company (Mold & Parts Factory / Tool factory / Parts Factory / Design Group / Agent / Other)
  • Markets / Territories Served
  • Number of Employees
  • Annual Turnover
Please note that we do not service Trading Companies.

 

Q: What information do you need to return a quotation to me?

A: We will require product samples or drawings (2D / 3D as available), required material (if known) and estimated monthly production quantity.

Q: How much time do you need to send me a quotation?

A: Unless DFM is required, we usually return a mold price to you within 1 working day.
For parts quotation, we usually return a price to you within 3 working days.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?

A: Most typically our clients prefer to pay in $USD by direct bank transfer to our Hong Kong subsidiary 'Changhong Technology (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. 昌红科技(香港)有限公司'. If you wish to pay by another method, please speak with one of our sales representatives directly.

Q: What currency do you quote in?

A: Our prices are generally F.O.B. Shenzhen, quoted in United States Dollars ($USD). Prices are usually then guarantee for 30 days after issue date. Please let us know if we can provide prices in another currency for your convenience.

Q: Do you offer favorable payment terms or financing programs?

A: Yes. For qualified customers we offer open payment terms and tool financing programs as required. Understandably for a first order we usually apply the industry standard 40% / 30% / 30% payment terms [ deposit / first sample / final sample (pre-shipping) ].

Q: Do you enter into price-fixed contracts for a year or more on standard parts?

A: Yes. For mass-produced parts produced by CHT, we are happy to discuss the optiojns of a fixed-price one year contract to ensure you get the right price for a set perios of time. This contract is then renewed every 6 months so that for the annual review, both you and CHT are aware of any changes that might be due.

Q: Why is Changhong more expensive than some quotations I have already received?

A: Since 2001 we have been striving to be the very best in the industry. We are regarded as so. Our list of long-term clients value the attention to detail and craftsmanship we dedicate to every project. The vast number of skilled technicians and engineers at your disposal ensure you get the best of the best, every time. To that end we do not and never will promise to be the cheapest. We do, however work every day to be the best.

Q: Are your prices negotiable?

A: Yes! As an experienced parts and mold-maker, we are well aware of the many different areas in which prices can be reduced. Whilst this usually affects lead-time, quality and cycle-time, it might be that in reducing the quoted price we can still meet (and hopeully exceed) your expectations. Please discuss your particular project with your appointed CHT sales engineer.

Q: How do you manage mold modification requests?

A: Before we begin to produce a mold we make sure that as many factors and specifications are agreed upon between you and CHT. If a modification is required in order to meet these initial expectations, Changhong will bear the cost of the changes.
If you wish to make an additional change (not previously specified in our agreement) you are asked to pay the balance of the mold cost, and issue a new P.O. for the mold modification (for which we will provide a new quotation).


Production FAQs

Q: Can I specify raw material suppliers?

A: Yes. Whilst we have a long list of China domestic and International resin suppliers available to work with, we are always glad to cooperate with a client-approved resin supplier, in order to meet requirements for FDA, ISO, ROHS, REACH, NSF etc. Please state your requirements when submitting your request for quotation.

Q: Can you reduce lead-time?

A: Yes. By investing in Asia's first automated mold-production line, we can greatly reduce errors and lead-time. Please ask your CHT sales representative for more information or see the video on our YouTube channel.

Q: Can I get an update on mold production?

A: Yes. Please book an appointment to visit us at your soonest convenience. If you cannot visit us, we will gladly send a weekly progress report to you via e-mail as to how the project is progressing. This includes notes and photographs for your review. We also talk on the phone once a week (minimum) to ensure strong communication throughout the project.

Q: Do you have PPAP experience?

A: Yes. As part of our dedication to the Automotive Industry and in-line with our ISO TS 14969:2009 certification, we are very familiar with the value and need for a clear and well-communicated production part approval process.

Q: Do you use standard components?

A: Yes. We use industry-standard parts and components to ensure that - wherever the mold is being used - it can be maintained and serviced as quickly and economically as possible.

Q: What is your On-Time Delivery to Customer Rate?

A: For the last three years we have maintained a 98% on-time delivery status.
